Web Host Operator

You can now specifically set up Web Host operators. When you log in as an operator with Type Web Host, your Web Host will start up in Web Host mode. Additional settings on the Operator form may be set for sending XML data to Collect!, for enabling SSL, and for setting ports to use for HTTP and HTTPS (secure mode).

This enables you to have multiple settings for using the Web Host. You could have default settings used for normal Web Host and special settings that take effect automatically when you open a Web Host instance signing in with a Web Host operator.

There are several settings that relate to using the Web Host Operator. They are explained in this document.

Operator Type

Web Host

An operator with this setting in the Type field of the Operator form automatically starts Collect! in Web Host mode. This setting enables several functions that depend on additional settings in the Operator Security and Operator Detail Tabs.

Additional settings may be set for sending XML data to Collect!, for enabling SSL, and for naming ports to use for HTTP and HTTPS (secure mode).

Operator Security

Enable Secure Socket Layer

Switch this on to enable SSL automatically when a Web Host operator logs into Collect!. This setting is used with the following two settings to determine how the SSL will be used.

Stunnel Socket Wrapper

When this setting is chosen, Collect! automatically starts the Web Host with the /W1s argument. This must be used with a third party SSL utility.

Internal Collect! SSL

When this setting is chosen, Collect! automatically starts the Web Host with the /W1ss argument. This uses the internal SSL functionality of Collect!. No external utilities are needed.

Operator Detail

Note 1

When the Operator Type is Web Host, this field contains the port Web Host listens on for HTTP requests, e.g. /S80. Not filling this in defaults to port 80.

Note 2

When the Operator Type is Web Host, this field contains the port Web Host uses for SSL (HTTPS requests), e.g. /y443. Leaving this blank causes Collect! to default to port 443.

Trusted Hosts

The Trusted Hosts form allows you to limit access to the Web Host to only the IP addresses listed. This feature may be combined with the /W3 switch to allow these Hosts to bypass system password authentication. This is useful for real time updates to the system when using Web Predictive Dialer.

This feature is available through the System menu, Network and Environment option.

Select this option to list the IP addresses which Web Host can receive requests from while bypassing security authentication.

Enable Trusted Hosts Feature

Switch this ON to use the Trusted Hosts feature. Collect! Web Host will accept requests only from the Hosts listed below.

Enable Only for /W3 Mode

Switch this ON to only enable the Trusted Hosts feature when Web Host is started with the /W3 command line option.

When this switch is ON:

If you start an instance of the Web Host WITHOUT the /W3 argument, this list is ignored. All IP addresses making requests to the Web Host are evaluated and those with proper passwords are allowed to access the Web Host screens.

If you start an instance of the Web Host WITH the /W3 argument, only IP addresses in the Trusted Hosts list will be allowed to access the Web Host. This is important because the /W3 switch bypasses the system password authentication process.

See Command Line Startup Options for more information.

Use IP Range

Switch this ON with a check mark to enable access to a range of IP addresses listed in the From and To fields on the Trusted Hosts form.

Hosts 1 - 8

Enter the IP address of a Host you wish to allow to access the Web Host.
